So where to begin this week? Well, the TL;DR is I had a pretty good week.

Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!

Continuing where I left off last week, our district Arts Director loved our BHM show so much she wanted to take it on the road to our feeder middle school and perform for the eighth graders. All the groups went—band, orchestra, choir, rock band, and dance. We were asked to do one number for each group—except choir. We also were requested to sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing”. So we started the show. Our number was the version of Stand Up I talked about. And my Freshman? She just graduated from that school last year, and all those eighth graders knew her and loved her. When she did her thing the place erupted in screams of delight.

After the show, and during it, our Arts Director did the recruitment pitch. As did we all. I think we’re going to have good numbers next year. Which helps when you’re trying to save the program from being cut back.

This week was also major tiring. The night before our recruiting trip, I had my audition for Godspell (2012 Revival). My audition song was “All Good Gifts”.

I sang and I sang WELL. I had more confidence, my legs weren’t shaking, I used movement around the stage, all good things. I also brought some of my instruments and played a bit.

Then came the dance part.

The director/choreographer took our group of six and taught us a simple dance with four steps, accompanied by some very upbeat techno music. And I was doing well keeping up. But I was TIRED and needed to sit for a while. Then we went back onstage for the dance audition. He did groups of three, and I didn’t get my chance at a breather just yet because I was in the first group. I did OK, I guess.

Then when I got home, instead of going to bed, I waited for an email. I got called back to sing for a role I wasn’t expecting.

So the next night (recruitment show day) I went back. We were divided into groups and given a side to read from. We were encouraged to improvise. It was part of the parable of the master forgiving the debt of his servant. I took the opportunity to throw in a bit of Rihanna. Then I totally slayed my assigned song. I got the compliment of I commanded the stage and had great presence. I’m improving. (Note to self: Topic for next week).

The next day, as I get home from school, I get the call to offer me a featured ensemble role. Where I also get to play instruments. Then it was on the road to play a concert. I was told there would be an official email that night, so I stayed up late again.

So, for the next two months it’s habit changing time as the rehearsal schedule will mean I can’t stay up when I get home.

So all in all, a very good week.

NOTE: There won’t be a diary next week because I’ll be singing glorious music written by Anton Bruckner. Stay tuned for that diary in two weeks!

And now on to Tops!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. A 03/02/24 comment in response to Shower Cap's hilarious diary of 03/01/24:  "Shower Cap Will Return in (insert Bond reference)"

There were a lot of witty comments in response to Shower Cap's diary, but I felt this one took the cake.  The dual perspectives on lightbulbs and the word 'screw' were sublime.

thanks,

As Putin starts his lightning quick conquest of Ukraine, he threatens Finland, but TWO YEARS!! into "lightning quick" is a wee bit off schedule.
