Last Spring I did something I hadn’t done in 40 years. I auditioned for a show. My friend (and boss at the time) was the director, and I was inspired. I’m so glad I did. I had the time of my life. I also joined the theater guild that put on the show. So when I heard this Fall’s show was a favorite of mine, I just had to try out. Back in high school, all my friends told me I’d be the perfect secondary lead character.
So I went in for my audition. I sang the show stopper song and did pretty OK I think. Well enough that I got a call back for the dream role. So did the acting teacher at my school. Anyway, at the call back I felt SO intimidated. I felt like a rookie among 10+ year veterans in a sports locker room. But I gave it my best. I didn’t get the dream role. But neither did my fellow teacher. He got the lead role. BUT I got my first credit. It’s at the bottom of the list and I only have two lines, but it’s a credit.
So once again, I have to balance school, the other ensembles I perform in, and my rekindled love of theater. Lucky for me, I’m not doing a pit gig for our district fall musical this year. Last Spring I was basically home at 11:00pm every night from the end of February until almost the end of May. I love performing, but there’s a limit, ya know?
Anyway, here’s a game for the comments. If you know the show, and if you know me, try to guess what the dream role all my friends in high school said I would be perfect for.
