So, as you can tell, these past three weeks have been full of Godspell. We had extra Saturday rehearsals, sometimes nine hours long, to perfect the show. To do it right, you need that level of work. Otherwise, it’s just a silly show with skits and songs.
Anyway, boy did our work pay off. If only we were able to run this weekend as well. The absolute LOVE we as a cast had and have for one another is real. Our joy, sweat, and tears (lots of tears) bound us in exactly the way the show binds the different characters. The following is what someone wrote to the director after the show on closing:
I wanted to reach out and share how profoundly your production of “Godspell” resonated with me. The concept of fear you explored within the performance captivated my heart and mind. It made me reflect deeply on how fear seeps into the fabric of society, particularly during tumultuous times like elections. There’s no denying that fear lives within all of us, tangled in the very essence of our nature.
I know you often see fear as a force that shapes our stories. You have stated that it’s this thread that weaves through our humanity, emerging both as a survival instinct and a creative powerhouse that drives our emotional narratives. In your rendition of “Godspell”, you wielded that force with such precision and empathy that I couldn’t help but be struck by its raw power.
This production masterfully transformed fear from an abstract concept into a visceral, deeply human experience that everyone could relate to. Each character and scene seemed to embody a unique facet of finding God in one self, and the journey they took us on felt like a shared catharsis. It was a kind of group therapy that brought us together, inviting us to face the wild rollercoaster of life with empathy, understanding, and courage.
The ending, with the woman wearing the Superman shirt, was a revelation. That single image made me realize that divinity resides in all of us. As I write this, I’m moved to tears of joy by the beauty of that moment and the way it connected us to the spirit of hope and resilience. The incredible talent and boundless heart shone through every scene, leaving an indelible mark on my soul. I did not expect this level of talent coming from a community theater production. For me, It was better than the Broadway production. It had a clearer vision and far more heart. My favorite numbers were *Bless the Lord* and the finale. The girl’s range during *Bless the Lord* was astonishing, and the harmonies in the finale were so poignant that they made my heart weep. The way you, your creative team and cast brought these songs to life felt like an embrace, a powerful reminder of the strength and beauty we share.
Thank you for sharing your gift with us. You’ve created something truly transformative, and I’m grateful to have experienced it. Your “Godspell” will stay with me for a long time, a reminder that by facing our fears together, we can find hope even in the most uncertain times.
I wish you could run for another weekend. Word of mouth after this past weekend would have drawn people in droves. Being surrounded by the audience's cheers and seeing tears during the ending was beautiful
So...yeah. We built a Beautiful City. And I’m still weepy over a week later every time I think about it.
BUT—
That wasn’t the only thing happening. It’s Proud Papa Time. I also had my school’s choir concert during this time. And the kids SLAYED. One teacher said they sounded University level. Through the many vicissitudes of the school year, my co teacher and I are proud of what we created, and the superintendent was at the concert as well. He heard what we have made. And now so will you. Here is the final number with our combined choirs, from freshmen to seniors.
Next Saturday, we’ll be taking this and one other song to Music in the Parks, where the kids will sing in a festival, then play at Six Flags for the rest of the day. So no diary next Saturday as well. So that’s a quick update on my doings. Other stuff will wait for a couple weeks.
Now, on to Tops!

I nominate this comment by Brother Bluto in response to DRo’s post in the Trial Live Blog about Natalie Harp printing out sympathetic media stories to feed to TFG to sooth his flaming ego. From gchaucer2’s stand-in liveblog of Trump’s fraud trial.
