So these past couple of weeks have been weird. We’re entering the second week of school back from break, and we’ve only had four days in the building. Winter does that. We had a teacher action at the last board meeting—the entire room was full of teachers, and words were said. We still don’t have a contract yet, and the administration’s last “offer” was rejected with 99.6 “no” votes. We understand, given the financial situation of the district, that some sacrifices have to be made, but we’re just asking for a FAIR contract, no one which dumps ALL the cuts on us.
I went to the DVD viewing party for Guys and Dolls this past Saturday and I got cheers in my two line role as the Hot Box Emcee. Wasn’t expecting that.
The other day I was talking with a food friend on FB and complimenting her on whatever it was she made. She jumped back and complimented me by saying I was so much more advanced than she was. I mean, she grows her garlic and other veggies, she cans and preserves, she bakes—OMG she bakes. And here she was complimenting me? I mean, I’m good in my area of usual cooking, I can pick up new techniques, and I have a talent for looking at a recipe and changing it in my head to fit my style and needs, but I’m certainly not some advanced Michelin level cook. So that made me feel good, even if I felt I was unworthy of that compliment.
And the best part is that I. Am. Back. In. The. Pool. That’s right, kids, ya boi is back swimming and it feels GREAT! I sucked on the stationary last time I was there, but slowly and surely I’ll be racing in August.
Sounds just like a normal time, but yet it still feels odd, like I’m about to get out the cork board, push pins, and yarn and start heading into meme land.
So as this year begins to unfold, let’s go with the current and see where it leads.
Now, on to Tops!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments?
