So this is going to be the last Saturday TC diary for a couple weeks. At least from me. Why? It’s December. And in addition to my teaching, I am a musician. If you live in a big city, and are good enough, December can pay your rent for most of the upcoming year. Me? I do what I do because I love it.

We start the week as usual with a rehearsal. See above photo. Wednesday the madness begins. That’s the dress rehearsal for my district’s Holiday concert. My choirs are sounding amazing this year, and this concert will be no different. Thursday it’s showtime. On Friday, the other choir director at the school and myself will be having our choirs perform at a local Kris Kringle mart (Or Christkindlmarket depending on preference). It should be a fun experience for them and we get good publicity, especially with huge funding cuts looming. Same with our combined high school marching band and rock bands in the local holiday parade this morning. Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th are the BIG nights for me. It will be my twelfth year performing Messiah with the Apollo Chorus of Chicago. If you live in the Chicago area, please consider going. We’ve been doing this since 1879, so we know how to move your very soul. Plus this will be the first time performing in Holy Name Cathedral, the home of the Cardinal of the Chicago Archdiocese, Blase Cupich.
But wait! There’s more!
The week after that, on the 17th, I am volunteering to be part of a core group for a do-it-yourself Messiah. Then my choir kids are doing some mini concerts at school for various classes. To top the holidays off, on Friday the 22nd, the orchestra I perform in will be doing its annual Holiday Pops concert. It’s been sold out since early November. That gig I get paid for. Then it’s finally time to relax before the Spring Semester starts and I jump in with both feet again. So my next Saturday Top Comments diary will be on the 23rd, with some musings for the Season. And I have musings. Why? Because I revere the Holy Mother Church and at the same time, am VEHEMENTLY against all organized “religions”. Isn’t dichotomy fun?
