We all know what the Republican electoral strategy is. Run on racism and “SOCIALISM!!! ZOMG!!!1!!!”
McConnell has openly said he’s calling everything “socialism” no matter what.
And why not? The media laps up Republican talking points without question, asks leading questions to Democrats, and lets Republicans lie and lie and lie to the point where the “average American voter” has a horrible opinion of that word,
So how do we defeat it?
Not by measured explanations and definitions, not by denials.
By ridicule.
OF COURSE Republicans are going to call every policy “socialist”.
OF COURSE Republicans are going to call every candidate “socialist”. Even if they’re a Blue Dog, Steny, even you.
So accept it.
Democrats need to tell constituents basically that Republicans will call ANYTHING socialist. If they try to name a post office they’ll call it socialist. And Democrats should USE nonsense examples like that.
Turn socialism into a nonsense word Republicans use when they don’t have anything better to say because your ideas work and they have nothing.
Turn Republicans into that whiny bratty kid that EVERYBODY hated at school.
And when Democrats have their debates, and Republicans use the “socialism” card, Inigo Montoya is ready to go. Just don’t forget to credit the movie.
