And who needs a ride?
I have three comfy seats in my vehicle for travel from Chicago, Gary, and points east on Interstate 94 until you get to Detroit. I plan on leaving Wednesday morning so I can be in Detroit by check in time at the Marriott.
So, what will I do?
As a member of the Badass Teacher Association, my focus is naturally on education. I'll definitely be attending the panel on Common Core, in which fellow BAT Marla Kilfoyle will be one of the panelists.
I will also be attending the panel on the corporatization of the Detroit Public schools, hosted by our own Chris Savage, otherwise known as Eclectablog.
I'm also fund raising to make sure I and any others who may need it won't be lacking for food, gas, parking, and other expenses while we're there.I'm unable to file for UI this summer as I already signed my teaching contract for next year--and this year's contract only said I got paid for days worked, and not a set salary every two weeks. This means I haven't been paid since June 20 and I have to make my pay last until the end of August.
I've got the odd playing gig, but it only pays $50 a concert.
Anyway, most of what I'm fundraising--for me at least--is for gas and parking. Yes, that's right, guests aren't allowed to park for free at this Marriott.
Unless there's anyone reading this in the Detroit area that knows where the free street parking real close to the Marriott is...?
So anyway, that's my fundraising pitch, such as it is. I know I'm not the best salesperson, but I mean well.
